What about insurance?
Whether you are choosing a career for the first
time, or are thinking about switching to a new field, deciding what you want to
do for the rest of your life can be more than a little intimidating. As
your vision of careers begins to mature, or perhaps change, you may want to
look into the diverse and rewarding opportunities within the multi-billion
dollar insurance industry.
Insurance is not a fly-by-night industry. As
far back as 4000 B.C. Chinese merchants would combine their risks to guard
against loss. Today, insurance plays a large role in our credit system,
while protecting millions of home, auto and business owners from the risk of
losing everything they have.
If you're looking for a career that will always be
in demand, one that offers stability and room for growth, consider the field of
insurance. Remember, risk is a constant in everyone's life; therefore,
protection against risk is a constant need.
What kinds of opportunities are available? Keep in mind that there are almost as many jobs in insurance as
there are people who work in it; at last count there were more than two billion
jobs in the industry! Some different areas include:
Property
Insurance covers damage to property such as homes, cars and
businesses;
Liability
Insurance covers a client who is unintentionally, but
legally responsible for bodily injury or property damage that is caused to
another person;
Life and
health insurance covers all the risks associated with human life.
Insurance agents can either be employed within an
agency or a company. An insurance company raises money by investing the
premiums obtained by all policies to pay policy holders. An insurance
agency acts as a link between the customer and the insurance company.
Captive
agents sell insurance for only one company or agency and
offer only the products provided by that company.
Independent
agents are business owners who represent several
insurance companies and can offer many different kinds of policies to their
customers. This type of agent can shop around for the best insurance
value among many competing companies.
Today's consumer demand more for their insurance
dollar than ever before, and independent agents are able to deliver the best
solutions because of their access to all the products of the many companies
they represent.
